I had a great opportunity to purchase a haired "Soul Man" mask from Yves Gravelle of Metamorphose Masks - and I couldn't turn it down.
The "Soul Man" is a heavier-set black-guy mask and can definitely give the SPFX "Black Senior" mask a run for its money (although at this point, a Greyland would give an SPFX mask a run for its money)
I had been a bit hesitant about purchasing the mask initially, as it appeared that the facial features were slightly out of proportion. I had had a similar issue with the SPFX "Sarge" mask in that it looked a bit - cartoony.
With the hairing, however, the mask is extremely realistic and my fears were completely unfounded. I would say, however, that this is a type of mask that needs head and facial hairing - unlike some of the Realflesh, Studio135 or CFX masks where you can get away with just eyebrows.
As for the details of the mask - the texturing job that Yves has done is nothing short of phenomenal - the silicone looks like real flesh down to the pores and slight imperfections of the skin itself. The bib is well muscled with a great amount of detail. Traps are also well-built on this mask. The silicone itself is quite grippy and adheres well to the face.
Eye fitment is very, very good.
Lip fitment is excellent as well. With Studio135 masks from Bryan Silva being the standards to which all others are judged, I would rate Metamorphose as a solid 9/10, with Realflesh being 8.75/10.
The neck is a cut a little large and can wrinkle when you twist your head - but nothing that my trusty foam padding doesn't fix immediately.
I used both some Mehron around my eyes and my brown contacts to complete the transformation. As you can see, the results are amazing!
I'm not sure of the character details yet, but I'm leaning towards an outlaw biker type. Time will tell, and I will be doing a video review shortly! And while Yves has added another black guy to my collection, I am still on the lookout
for my Boris Kudjoe/Shemar Moore "handsome black guy"...
